Sunkoshi rural municipality is one of the 12 local levels (3 municipal and 9 rural) in the Sindhupalchok district of Bagmati province. During the restructuring of the state after the new constitution, the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal, According to the information published in the gazette on 27th of Falgun 2073, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality was formed by merging Thokarpa, Kalika, Thumpakhar, Sunkhani, Yamuna Danda and Pangretar Village Development Committees. Currently, there are 7 wards in this rural municipality. It is named after the Sunkoshi River that flows through this village.

Geographical Location

The total area of ​​Sunkoshi rural municipality is 72.84 square kilometres. The eastern border of this municipality is connected with Lisankhupakhar and Tripura Sundari Rural Municipality and the western border is connected with Chautara Sangachok Gadhi municipality. Likewise, the northern border is connected with Balephi rural municipality and the southern border with the Kavre district. Since this municipality is spread in the lower part of the district, there are no mountains here. But this municipality is located in the middle of the mountains from the bank of the river.

Population of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality

 According to the census of the year 2068, the total population of Sunkoshi was 16713 and the population density was 238 per square kilometer.

 According to the new national census 2078, the total population of the municipality is 15307, of which 7376 are males and 7931 are females. According to this census, the population density of Sunkoshi is 210 per square kilometre and the population growth rate is -1.2% (2068-2078). There are a total of 4509 census houses and 4597 family numbers.

Educational Institutions

There are 32 child development centers, 23 primary schools, 4 basic schools, 12 secondary schools and 2 community campuses within Sunkoshi rural municipality. These educational institutions have been providing quality education to the people of Sunkoshi. In this municipality, according to the year 2068, there is a total literacy rate of 62.69 percent in which 55.52 percent are women and 71.34 percent are men.

Health Post

There are basic health posts in almost all the wards of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. Sunkoshi health post, Yamuna Danda health post, Thokarpa basic hospital, Kalika health post, Pangretar health post, Thumpakhar health post are the health institutions here. Cultivable Land and Forest

About 42 per cent of the total area of ​​Sunkoshi Village is cultivable. Most of the municipality's fields of activity are agriculture, animal husbandry, trade, water resources and tourism. Rice, corn, wheat, millet and other vegetables and pulses and oilseed crops are cultivated on the land here. Sunkoshi is a promising place for coffee cultivation. Recently, people here have been attracted to commercial farming.

Similarly, around 30 to 40 percent of Sunkoshi's area is covered by forest. According to District Profile 2075, there are 44 community forests here.

The hydroelectric project operated here, Sunkoshi river, Thokarpa, Kalika, Thumpakhar, Yamunadanda, and Pangretar are famous tourist spots here.
