Coming from a sports-loving family—both parents were volleyball players, his uncle Balgopal Shrestha played for APF Club, his brother B.M. Kuthu was an ANFA player, and his aunt Rupa Kuthu was a former national women’s team footballer—Bikesh’s path into sports was almost inevitable. Initially starting as a defender in school, his height led him to take up goalkeeping, a role that would define his career.

His big moment came at the Sindhu–Bhotekoshi Cup, where his local team, Sunkoshi Club, beat top A-Division teams. This made him well known across Nepal.
