Bhaktapur Municipality

Bhaktapur Municipality is one of the local government in Bhaktapur district, Nepal. This municipality is famous for its histroical heritage, original culture, arts, foods, handicrafts & more. Bhaktapur is the cultural capital of Nepal. it is also known as "Khwapa" in local Newari language. Known for their uniqueness, the city's trademarks are Juju Dhau (yoghurt), Bhadgaule Topi (Black Cap), Haku Patasi (black saree with red border), and pottery and handicrafts. The majority of the population is Buddhist or Hindu. The city's residents are united together by religious concord. All festivals and cultural events are celebrated with equal fervour. 

The eastern border of BhaktapurMunicipality is connected with Changu Narayan Municipality. Similarly, The western border is connected with Madhyapur Thimi Nagarpalika. Addtionally, The northern border is connected with Changunarayan and southern border is connected with Suryabinayak Nagarpalika. There are 10 ward offices in the Bhaktapur Municipality. Geographically, this city is 4.5 km from east to west in the shape of a flying pigeon. Length and North South 1.5 km. Spread across the width. In the north and south of this city, there are two rivers and ponds scattered throughout the city.

The total area of Bhaktapur Nagarpalika is 6.88 square kilometer. Similarly, the total population is 79136 in Bhaktapur municipality as per National Census 2078. This municipality lies at 1401 meters above the sea level.  Bhaktapur is a "Living Museum" or "Living Heritage" that exhibits the diverse and complex Newari culture. The vibrant festivals celebrated by the Newar community. This community celebrate various festival, culture together with their way of life, customs, Daffas (a group that prays), Guthis, and traditional dance groups. The main events of the festivals are Dashain and Tihar (October/November), Gai Jatra (August), and Bisket Jatra (mid-April). When visiting the city, everyone can take in the daily cultural performances of Daffas, Bhajans (hymns), worship, dances, music, rituals, and traditional Newari dress and way of life. These living traditions have been handed down from generation to generation in an uninterrupted line for over time.

Bhaktapur Municipality is the home of the ancient history, culture, heritages, & arts. So, the municipality formulate various plans & policies to preservation of these ancient heritages, culture & arts. The municipality has been collection entrance fees from foreign tourists since 1993 AD. These collected fees are used for preservation & promotion of their ancient culture, heritages & arts. Additionally, Bhaktapur Municipality achieved the tittle of " Ten Cleanest City in Asia". The living heritages pf Bhaktapur is listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Themain motto o Bhaktapur is ""Ancestral Heritage, Our Art and Culture". 

Educational & Health Institutions in Bhaktapur Municipality

There are 13 primary schools, 13 lower secondary schools, 60 secondary schools, 10 higher secondary schools, 7 colleges and two technical educational institutions in the Bhaktapur Municipality. Thousands of students are studying in various faculties in these institutions. Bhaktapur municipality itself is running 7 colleges and one polytechnic study institute. In these educational institutions, more than 7 thousand students from 77 districts of Nepal are studying in various faculties and subjects at low fees.

Currently, there are 4 hospitals and 3 public health centers in this city. Among these, one is related to children and women's diseases, one is related to tumor diseases and the remaining 2 are related to the treatment of common diseases. The municipality is also running public health centers in different places of the city. Presently, the municipality has also started operating a hospital while providing emergency services for general people.
