Radio Melamchi, run by Community Communication Campaign Nepal, was granted permission on 18th Mangsir 2069. The radio went on air on the 10th Magh of the same year. This radio, which was operated by keeping a radio broadcasting centre in Pokhrebhanjyang of the then Duvachour borough of Sindhupalchok district, has been providing information, messages as well as entertainment covering the western part of Sindhupalchok.
It became known in the community in a short period of time because it broadcasted content, information, and messages that were useful especially for the rural community. After the radio started with the activism and investment of the local youth, the community has been receiving support for the operation of the radio. After the devastating earthquake of 2072, the studio was no longer functional, the tower itself was moved a little further from its original location, and the radio was broadcast.

Since there is a radio station 8 km away from Melamchi market, it was felt that it was not easily accessible, so radio broadcasting was brought from the market area. With the financial support of the community, he prepared his own building and brought it to radio broadcasting, but on June 1, 2078, due to floods in Melamchi and Indravati rivers, he was completely submerged and lost his broadcasting equipment and documents. Now the radio is being broadcast by renting a house in Tar near Melamchi Bazar.

Efforts have been made to broadcast radio with less manpower at a low cost. The necessary material for the radio has been searched for by producing manpower at the local level. Radio is involved in the preservation and promotion of local language, literature, art and culture. Radio Melamchi is also providing useful information to rural farmers, health awareness programs, and materials against child labour, as well as monitoring the service delivery of government and non-government organizations here.

Radio has been working for the welfare of the poor. The community is supporting everyone in their troubles and hardships. The community has been helping to keep the radio alive.
