Listi Mai temple is one of the famous religious and tourist places in Sindhupalchowk. It is located in Bhotekoshi rural Municipality ward no.1, Listi village. According to geographical location, Listi Mai is located at 27.53.36 latitude and 85.52.20 longitude. It is at a height of 2290 meters above sea level. Located 118 km northeast of the capital Kathmandu, the temple is a historical and cultural centre.
Listi was called Kotdanda during the Mallakalin period. Listi Mai Temple is also known as Ugrachandi Bhagwati Temple. According to Samvat 849 written on copperplate, this temple was established in prehistoric times. This is one of the old Hindu temples of Nepal. Devotees go here with faith, trust and devotion.
The current form of Listi Mai Temple was built in 2055 AD. This place is an important place in the Listikot area. Listikot's religious, cultural, and social values and customs are represented by Listi Mai or Ugrachandi Bhagwati.
The name Listikot is believed to be due to the adjustment of the name "Lis" used by the Newar community living in this area and "Ti" used by the Tibetan community and Kotdanda.
