Maya Gurung ( Himal ki Chori ) is a professional mountaineer. She was born in Bhotenamlang village located in Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok district,Bagmati, Nepal.
She has spread her name not only in Nepal but all over the world as an adventurous woman. She is a rebellious, adventurous woman. She and her team successfully climbed Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, in 2008 AD. She was also the first person from the Gurung community to successfully climb Mount Everest. She is one of the seven summit women ( Team of Seven women ) who successfully climbed all the highest mountains of the seven continents of the world.
She is active in identifying the hidden mountains in Nepal. She is also active in identifying and naming new mountains in the Sindhupalchok district.
Childhood Life
Maya Gurung was born in Bhotenamlang, a remote village of Sindhupalchowk. She is a person who loves adventure since childhood. She had been struggling since childhood. She studied in a local school during her childhood.
Maya Gurung's parents were going to marry her when she was 13-14 years old. She ran away from home a day before the wedding. From her childhood, she had the idea that "she should read, after being born in the world, we should do something for ourselves as well as others". So she had learned to struggle with herself since childhood.

- Maya Gurung is a mountaineer, politician, and campaigner.
- She was born in Bhotang village in the lap of the Jugal snow range in Sindhupalchok district and got basic education from the village school.
- A group of 10 women, including her, successfully climbed the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, in 2008 AD. Which is known as "inclusive women".
- After their successful climbing of Everest, the teams including her decided to climb the seven highest mountains of the seven continents of the world. And finally, a team of seven women including Maya (Seven Summit Women) successfully climbed the seven highest mountains of seven continents in 2014 AD.
- She has been running a school for the purpose of teaching mountain climbing.
- She entered politics in 2022. She became an independent candidate in the local elections, she was nominated by the National Independent Party's candidate in the House of Representatives elections from Sindhupalchowk 2. She is also the Sindhupalchok district president of that party.
Political Career
- Maya Gurung is also developing herself as a politician. According to her, she started politics for the equality of all.
- She became an independent candidate for the post of Chairman of Sindhupalchok Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality in the local elections of 30 Baisakh, 2079. But she was defeated in that election.
- She has become a candidate from the National Independent Party from Sindhupalchok Representative Assembly Constituency No. 2 in the House of Representatives election in 2022 AD.
