Shankharapur Municipality

Shankharapur Municipality is located in the Kathmandu district of Nepal. It is in the eastern part of Kathmandu. This municipality was established in 2071 Mangsir 16 with 15 ward offices. Later, During the state structure after the new constitution, i.e. during the implementation of federalism, based on the information published in the gazette by the Government of Nepal on the 27th of Falgun 2073, this municipality was established by adjusting the former Shankharapur Municipality, Indrayani, Pukhulachhi, Bajrayogini, Lapsefedi, Suntol & Nanglebhir village development committees. 

There are nine ward offices in Shankharapur Municipality. The total area of this municipality is 60.21 square kilometres. A long time ago, about 3300 years ago, Jogdev Bajracharya built this area in the year 1801 of the Kaligat calendar. He imagined a city shaped like a conch shell, so it was named Shankharapur municipality. Sali Nadi, Sankhu & Bajrayogini are the major places here. 

The eastern border of Shankharapur Municipality is connected with Sindhupalchowk & Kavre district. Similarly, The western border is associated with Kageshwori Manohara Municipality. Additionally, the northern border is connected to Gokarneshwor Municipality & Sindhupalchok. And, The southern border is connected with Bhaktapur. Castes like Tamang, Newar, Brahmin, Chhetri Gurung and others live here.
