Manichud Daha

Manichud Daha is one of the famous places in Kathmandu valley located in Shivapuri National Park. It is famous for short hiking and relaxation. It  is a high-altitude pond tucked inside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. This pond is in the northeast of central Kathmandu. Sitting above 2,000 m, it combines religious significance, scenic forest hikes, and easy accessibility from Kathmandu. Mani chud is located in just 15–22 km distance from central Kathmandu. The major attractions are the steep-but-short trail rewards visitors with fluttering prayer flags, a historic temple complex, and panoramic valley views. 

Manichud Daha lies within the boundaries of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, accessed via the Shankharapur, entrance on Kathmandu’s northeastern direction. Administratively, it falls under Shankharapur Municipality in Kathmandu District, Bagmati Province .

History & Legend

Local legend traces Manichud Daha’s name to Buddha Sambat 2514, when King Manichud of Sanketu sacrificed a magical crystal (“mani”) from his forehead into the pond to save his people from plague, at the cost of his own life. His selflessness led villagers to rename the site “Manichud Daha” (“King Mani’s Pond”), and folklore holds that the king’s essence became immortalized in a stone statue still present today. Since then, both Hindus and Buddhists revere the pond; ritual baths during Janai Purnima are believed to cleanse fear and disease.

Manichud Route

The visitors can use various route to reach in Manichud Daha. The distance of Manic Chud daha from central Kathmandu is around 25 KM. This place offers the one day hike also. 

You can take public vehicle to the Gagalphedi then can hike for around 2-3 hours. Alternatively, You can use motercycle / bike via Sahid Park - Kageshwori Dham road. Similarly, you can go here from Sundarijal or Sankhu Village.
