Gaurati Bhimsen Temple is a very famous religious, historical tourist place in the Sindhupalchok district. This temple is located at Chautara Sangachok Gadhi Municipality Ward No. 6 Pipal Danda. This religious place is about 6 km north of Chautara Bazar, the headquarters of Sindhupalchok district.

Gaurati Bhimshen Temple is a famous place for devotees who believe in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Bon religion in Nepal. Thousands of devotees from different parts of the country come to visit this temple. And, this is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Nepal.

There are settlements of Newar and Tamang communities around this temple.

Gaurati Bhimsen Jatra

Gaurati Bhimsem Temple has a big Jatra every year on the day of "Kartik Shukla Purnima". At that time, devotees from places like Sindhupalchok district and the capital Kathmandu go to worship.

Probably, this is the biggest religious program in the Sindhupalchok district. The pilgrims who did not go to Gaurati on the day of "Kartik Shukla Purnima", go on "Panchami" day. Apart from that, devotees and tourists can visit Gaurati at any time.

Gaurati Bhimsen is the brother (Mahilo) of Dolakha Bhimsen. Devotees who have reached to visit Dolakha Bhimsen should also visit Gaurati Bhimsen.

  • It is one of the oldest temples in Nepal. On the occasion of the Rajat Mahotsav, when former King Virendra Vir Bikram Sah and Queen Aishwarya ascended the throne of Nepal, a pillar unveiled as a memorial to the rebuilding of the temple is installed in this temple premises.
