The postal service in Nepal began when the "Nepal Hulak Ghar" was established in 1878 A.D. It's considered one of the first government services in Nepal, offering both essential and commercial services.
In 1878 A.D., the General Post Office (GPO) was set up in Kathmandu to offer various postal services and handle mail from different countries. The GPO manages local and international mail by following government rules and global standards. Within the Kathmandu Valley, there are four main postal counters and 15 Area Postal Offices. These offices oversee 53 Extra Postal Offices, ensuring that postal services are available to everyone.
