Panauti is one of the historical, cultural, ancient heritage of Kavre district, Bagmati, Nepal. The Panauti Municipality was formed in 2056 BS. During the state structure after the new constitution, i.e. during the implementation of federalism, based on the information published in the gazette by the Government of Nepal on the 27th of Falgun 2073, this municipality was established by adjusting the former Panauti Municipality, Kusha Devi, Syale Bihawar, Kalati, Bhumi Danda, Balthali & Sharadha Batase village development committees.
There are 12 ward offices in Panauti Municipality. The total area of Panauti is 118 square kilometres. Panauti Municipality is located at 27˚ 35' North Latitude and 85˚ 30' East Longitude. The city is at an altitude of 1,340 m to 2,782 m above sea level.
The eastern border of Panauti is connected with Dhulikhel Municipality and western border is connected with Lalitpur & Bhaktapur. Similarly, The northern border is connected with Banepa & Bhaktapur and southern border is connected with Bethanchok & Lalitpur.
Panauti is very famous for its creative & original Jatra & festival. The Makar Mela at Triveni Ghat every twelve years, Halsiddhi deity Jatra held every 12 years, Jya Poonhi (Panauti Jatra), Devinach Bhadrakali dance, Visket Jatra, Ranganath (Temple) Jatra, Madhavnarayan Mela etc., keep the cultural grandeur of Panauti alive.
