Education Training Center, Dhulikhel

Dhulikhel Kavrepalanchok Education Training Centre is a prestigious organisation within the Bagmati Province's Ministry of Social Development. It is located roughly 30 kilometres to the east of Kathmandu. Under the national curriculum framework and national quality standards, capacity-building activities for teachers at the school level and other civil staff are primarily required. It also supervises the application of curriculum in schools and carries out curriculum-related research.

The Education Training Centre Dhulikhel was initially founded in 1996 as one of the National Centre for Educational Development's (NCED) nine Primary Teacher Training Centres (PTTCs). The NCED was founded in 1993 as the highest authority for human resource development in the education sector. The facility used to host some programmes for in-service primary teacher training.

Scope/ Area

The NCED was formed in 2004 from the merger of the Secondary Education Centre (SEDC) and the Distance Education Centre (DEC). The Secondary Education Development Units (SEDUs) were reorganised into 20 Educational Training Centres and 5 Educational Training Sub-centers, and all of the PTTCs were renamed as Educational Training Centres. Formerly in charge of ETC-B Kathmandu, ETC-B Nuwakot, ETC Sub-center Dhulikhel was Educational Training Center-A Kabhrepalanchok. Its catchment area was formerly comprised of nine districts: Bhaktapur, Dolakha, Kabhrepalanchok, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Ramechhap, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchok. 

Work of ETC

The Centre has been carrying out a range of capacity-building exercises for teachers, head teachers and other professionals, as well as educational staff employed by the province's local governments. The primary training courses are in Teacher Professional Development (TPD) certification, school head teacher leadership, refresher courses, and training for educational staff employed by local governments. The centre also carries out research, visits fields, offers instructors technical assistance and keeps an eye on how the curriculum and training are being implemented in the classroom.

Functions of the Educational Training Center

Here are some functions of the Education Training Center, Dhulikhel:

• To conduct professional development activities based on the National Curriculum Framework and National Quality Standards. 
• To conduct research related to curriculum and to monitor the implementation of curriculum.
• To conduct training for the effective implementation of the school curriculum.
• Coordinate with the provincial and local governments about activities related to curriculum and provide technical support to them.
• To implement the policy of the government in the areas of national curriculum and human resource development.
• To develop standards for teacher development and to implement them.
• To develop and distribute materials for training and other reference materials.
• To provide equivalence to teacher training.
