Sankata Temple is the famous religious places in Kathmandu valley, Nepal. It is located in Te Bahal near New Road, Kathmandu. It is a well-known Hindu temple in Nepal dedicated to Goddess Sankata. Similarly, It is also considered the religious place for Buddhist religion.  It stands as a beacon of hope and a sanctuary for those seeking respite from life's tribulations. It is belief that Sankata helps to the people overcome from the challenging effects of planetary periods, known as Graha-Dasha. The pligrims worship the Sankata in every Saturday. 

Religious Beliefs

According to local beliefs, Sankata once came to the aid of the Malla King, a deed that has inspired many to trust in her power. Although she is particularly revered by the Vajracharya Newars of Kathmandu. Devotees of Hinduism and Buddhism alike flock to her shrine for blessings. According to the main priest,  the central focus of worship at Sankata Mandir is indeed to avert crises. Devotees come seeking blessings to navigate challenges, overcome obstacles, and find strength during difficult times. The atmosphere within the temple is often filled with a quiet reverence, a testament to the deep faith people hold in the power of Sankata. Stepping inside the temple, visitors are greeted by the serene presence of various deities. Among them are Kaushalya, Kasauli Devi, and the formidable Nafi Bhairav. Each deity holds significance and contributes to the spiritual aura of the Mandir.

Every Saturday, the temple buzzes with the energy of thousands of worshippers.  it makes a special day to seek the goddess’s grace. Additionally, an intriguing tradition endures at Sankata Temple—a ritual where, every 12 years, the temple priest worships the goddess using a holy pitcher for Yogini at Chobhar. 

How to Reach?

Sankata Temple is located in Te Bahal near Dharahara and New Road, Kathmandu. Mainly, You can go here via New Road gate road. Then, suddenly, you should take left sub-road to reach here. As per convinence, you can us others way. 

The special day to worship in Sankata is Saturday of every week. Pligrims form various places come here to worship purpose and get blissed. It is the must visited religious place in Kathmandu.
