Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital is one of the biggest government hospitals in Nepal. It is located in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. It was established in 1983AD. Similarly, It is operated under the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University. This is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Nepal. It provides a wide range of medical services including Emergency Care, Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Services, Specialized Departments, Surgical Services & Lab and Diagnostic Services. It was established to provide quality health services & produce quality doctors in the country. 

TU Teaching Hospital (TUTH) is not just a hospital, it is also a teaching institute. Medical students from Tribhuvan University practice and learn here. It provides training for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers.

Historical Background

TU Teaching Hospital was built with calibration between the Government of Nepal & Japan. The history of this Hospital's concept began when Birendra Bir Bikram Shah visited Japan in 1978. Later, There was an agreement on September 15, 1981, between Nepal and Japan. This agreement led to the establishment of TUTH. The hospital was officially inaugurated on March 7, 1986, by King Birendra.

This Teaching Hospital was built to provide medical education and health services and promote medical research. It started as a 301-bed hospital equipped with modern medical tools and became Nepal's first medical college hospital. This hospital started the Outpatient Department (OPD) in 1983. Similarly, It began indoor facilities, operating theatres, and a 6-bed ICU/CCU in 1985. Moreover, it developed 100 additional beds, a new operating theatre, an ICU complex, and two annexe buildings with 50 beds each in 1993 with the help of Japan.

TUTH is one of the top referral hospitals in Nepal. It has 850 beds. Similarly, It provides clinical training for medical students, nurses, and paramedics at various levels, including graduate and Ph.D. It is one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in Nepal, serving the healthcare needs of the nation.
